With most of my paintings I tend to mix and blend my colors right on the painting surface before they have a chance to dry. For this particular piece, I decided to brush each color exactly where I thought it should be...and leave it. This was a real challenge for me...but, fun!

I came across a wooden frame that I had purchased a while back. It included a mat with three individual openings. I had planned on discarding the mat and just using the frame. When I looked it over this morning, however, the idea of painting one piece that flowed from section to section intrigued me. I quickly spread out two pieces of fabric from a bin of old quilting supplies, then rolled some marbles on top...and began painting!

Steve and I invested in kayaks last summer. We spent much of our time in them perusing the shoreline of the lake where our family camp is located. This painting captures an excursion on one of the inlets there.

I so enjoyed the color palette used in creating Sleigh Bells Ring (posted on 12/31/08), that I decided to try working with it again. My husband's boots seemed a good choice of subject. The colors in the actual painting are a bit more muted than they appear here, giving the overall piece a softer look. But, I think you can get the general idea of what I was going for...
