To paint this piece, I hung a strand of sleigh bells from the light that is clamped to the top of my easel. For lighting purposes this idea worked great. However, every time my brush pushed against the painting surface it would wiggle the easel which in turn would cause the sleigh bells to ring. I hadn't counted on this, but it sure made for a joyful painting experience, as well as an obvious title choice!

This painting was done as a gift for my brother, Dan. He and Jim each own their own pool tables. Unbeknownst to them, I took a series of reference photos for Combo and Soft Break (below) during a stay at Dan's house a year or so ago. Dan had a hand in the naming this painting just as Jim did for his.

This was a Christmas gift for my brother, Jim, who spends much of his off time shooting pool. The colors and perspective made this a fun painting to work on. Jim helped me title the painting. A 'soft break' is a shot purposefully meant to keep the balls close together.

Our youngest daughter, Meg, is a news videographer for WPTZ, an NBC affiliate in Plattsburg, New York. I had the luxury of working on this portrait of her while listening to some great live music from our neighbor, Sam. He was home recently to work on a recording with some of his band mates. Sam and my two daughters grew up together in this neighborhood. They don't get the chance to see each other often any more, so it was fun for me to connect them for a bit through his music and my paintbrush. It sure brought back a ton of good memories...
